Washington: The top US military officer,Admiral Mike Mullen,said on Tuesday he supports lifting the ban on gays serving openly in uniform,saying it was the right thing to do. His remarks to a Senate panel marked the first time the countrys top-ranking officer came out clearly in support of changing the law,and came after President Barack Obama renewed his vow to work with Congress to repeal the ban.

Jerusalem: Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip say a failed attempt to send floating bombs toward Israeli beaches was meant to avenge the death of a Hamas commander in Dubai. The militants say bombs are still floating in the Mediterranean,and Israeli police have cordoned off a swath of the countrys coastline because of fears of further attacks.
