Tejaswi Shetty sets her third record

The other record-breakers were Parikshit Shetty (Otters), who bettered R Banerji’s time of 1:19.5 in the under-13 100 m breaststroke for boys under-13 with 1:19.41, Anukol Shenoy (MSP), who improved on Parikshit Shetty’s time of 0:21.10 with 0:20.70 in the under-7 25 metres butterfly, Anshuka Parwani (Khar Gym), who had a time of 0:38.22 for the 50 metres backstroke for girls under-11, the previous best being Sayatri Dhumatkar’s 0:40.55, and Shreya Nadkarni (BPCL), who improved on Shruti Reddy’s 0:21.55 with 0:19.95, in the 25 metres butterfly for girls under-7.

It wasaltogether a good two days for Sindoor Thakkar of Otters, who swelled the number of golds she won in all to ten, figuring in two successful relay teams, two individual women’s titles and under-15 event on the final day.

Trebles were registered by V Vinod of Khar Gymkhana in the men’s event and Loknath Char, also of Khar Gymkhana, in the under-11 category.

The individual champions were: Men: V Vinod (Khar Gym). Women: Sindoor Thakkar (Otters). Boys under-7: Sagar Patil, under-9: Dhiren Shetty (ASP), under-11: Loknath Char (Khar Gym), under-13: Avinash Kriplani, under-15: Riyad Palia.

Girls under-7: Shreya Nadkarni (BPCL), under-9: Prateeksha Ahuja (Khar Gym), under-11: Anshuka Parwani (Khar Gym), under-13: Bhavna Sharma (BPCL) and under-15: Sindoor Thakkar (Otters).

C Rly in final

An all-round performance by Central Railway’s D Ketkar helped his side defeat Hongkong Bank at the Central Railway ground and enterthe Times Shield `H’ Division final.

Hongkong Bank batted first and were bowled out for 157 in 80.3 overs. Only the opening batsman S D’Cunha played a valiant knock of 65. T Bijur (23) and Neil D’Souza (19) were other main contributors. Three CR players could not even open their account. Ketkar’s fiery spell of six for 39 was ably supported by G Rathod who scalped two for 39. Y Gavad and MV Girish took a wicket each.

Chasing 157 to enter the first final, CR started cautiously but achieved the target with the loss of four wicket. M Waingankar and Mansoor Khan gave the desired start. Then it was No 3 batsmen S Chavan chance, who scored unbeaten 44. But it was Ketkar who supported him scored a brave 43 and helped his side to surpass the Hongkong Bank total.

Oberoi through

Anthony D’Souza’s solitary goal helped OberoiTowers get past Saki Village Boys 1-0 in the Bro Paulus Cup Football Tournament played at the St D’Assisi ground, Borivli. Both the teams failed to score in the first-half. D’Souza netted the winner for Oberoi in the 33 minute.

In another match today, Friends XI defeated RCF `B’ 8-7 in a tie-breaker. Both the teams failed to break the deadlock in the regular time.

Thadomal win

Ashwin Nandkumar’s goal in second half brought the winners trophy to Thadomal Sayani Engineering College after they beat Fr. CRCE in the final of inter-Engineering college football tournament played at the Priyadarshini Ground today. Ryan Cordeirian of Fr CRCE and Pinto Philips of NYSS won the best player and highest scorer prize.

Colaba YS victorious

Colaba Young Stars (CYS) defeated Rhino SC 6-5 via tie-breaker in the quarter-final of the Don Bosco Challenge Cup organised by Don Bosco Youth centre and played at the St Joseph Technical Institute, Kurla.

CYS drew first blood in the 20th minute through a penaltywhen Camilio Noranha handled the ball in the area. Santosh Rane scored from the penalty spot. Rhino SC scored the equaliser when Camilio Noranha scored five minute before time on a pass from Satyawahan Sawant.

In the other match, Kalina Rangers got past ACE XI 5-1. Neil D’Costa scored a brace for Kalina while Rupesh Sukhtankar, Praveen Gokhale and Valian D’Souza scored a goal each. Robert D’Costa scored the consolation goal for ACE XI. Kalina Rangers will meet Fr Agnel while Colaba YS will take on Don Bosco Academic, Matunga in the other semi-final.

Gaurav bags title

Gaurav Kumar defeated Ankit Doshi 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 in a keenly contested boys’ under-16 final of the Wodehouse Gymkhana Open Junior Tennis Tournament, today.
