According to police, two recent theft cases were registered at Sarangpur police station.
As many 15 stolen vehicles have been recovered following the arrest of two teenagers who were allegedly involved in multiple vehicle theft cases across Chandigarh.
The accused have been identified as Mohan alias Mona (19) and Karan alias Bhima (19), both residents of Dhanas. Police said the duo targeted two-wheelers parked in different parts of Chandigarh, especially during night hours.
According to police, two recent theft cases were registered at Sarangpur police station.
In the first case, complainant Sonia Kumari reported that her Honda Activa was stolen from the Dhanas vegetable market. In another case, Rajnish Kumar reported the theft of his motorcycle from outside his house in Dhanas.
During the investigation, police arrested both the accused and based on their disclosure, recovered a total of 15 stolen vehicles linked to cases registered at police stations in Sarangpur, Sector 17, Maloya, Sector 39, Mauli Jagran, Sector 11, Sector 36, and Sector 26.
The recovered vehicles include scooters and motorcycles bearing registrations from Chandigarh, Haryana and Punjab.
Police said that Mohan alias Mona is a school dropout educated up to Class 8 and works as a painter, while Karan alias Bhima has studied up to Class 7 and is currently unemployed. It was also found that Mohan has a criminal history. In 2022, he was convicted in a vehicle theft case registered at the Sarangpur police station.
During the interrogation, police established that both accused are addicted to drugs. To fund their addiction, they used to conduct late-night reconnaissance to identify unattended vehicles. After stealing the two-wheelers, they would hide them at abandoned locations with plans to sell them later.
Police said further investigation is underway to identify buyers of stolen vehicles and other possible associates of the accused.
