The e-rickshaw driver defended his actions by saying he brought the snake to show doctors exactly what had bitten him
An unsettling episode played out in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura when a man who had been bitten by a snake turned up at a government hospital carrying the reptile that attacked him, hidden inside his jacket.
The man, identified as e-rickshaw driver Deepak, arrived at the district hospital seeking immediate treatment after being bitten by a snake and later claimed he had been standing outside the hospital for nearly half an hour without receiving medical attention.
What left onlookers stunned was his decision to bring the live snake along, calmly keeping it tucked inside his jacket pocket while waiting for anti-venom. A video of the incident soon spread across social media. In the clip, someone can be heard asking Deepak, “Where is the snake?” He responds by unzipping his jacket and revealing the reptile, triggering visible shock among those present.

“I came half an hour ago to the hospital, they refused [treatment]. Thereafter, I staged a protest on the road,” Deepak said in the video. Questioning the state of public healthcare, he added, “If a government hospital has no facility, where else will people go?”
The hospital staff immediately asked him to release the snake outside the premises, warning that it posed a serious risk to patients and staff. When Deepak refused, the situation escalated. In protest, he parked his e-rickshaw near the hospital and attempted to block traffic, briefly disrupting movement in the area, according to India Today.

With tensions rising, the local police were called in. Officers, along with hospital authorities, repeatedly explained the danger of keeping a live snake inside a public space. After continued persuasion, Deepak finally agreed to let the snake go away from the hospital.
Only after the reptile was safely released did doctors begin his treatment. Hospital officials later clarified that the delay was purely due to safety concerns. A district hospital doctor told India Today that Deepak had initially arrived with the snake hanging around his neck and was informed that treatment could begin only after the snake was removed.
Deepak defended his actions by saying he brought the snake to show doctors exactly what had bitten him, believing it would help them treat him correctly.
However, no serious harm was reported.
As the videos went viral, social media users flooded the comments with mixed reactions. One user wrote, “This is scary and shocking at the same time. Basic medical help should never be delayed, especially in life-threatening cases like this.”
Another commented, “There is an atmosphere of fear in snake’s society”. A third user remarked, “These dehatis indulge in this kind of nonsense activities, then record and post it online and bring hatred and embarrassment to the entire country.”
