Shark Tank India pitcher dropped IIM to build AI tool, it picks up Vineeta Singh’s brand but not Namita Thapar’s: ‘Main kahan hoo?’
Shark Tank India Season 5: Young AI entrepreneur Ashish Kamathi revealed the brand visibility for Namita Thapar's new product Arth versus its competitor, which Vineeta Singh invested in.
Shark Tank India pitcher shows Namita Thapar and Vineeta Singh discover their brand's visibility on AI platforms.
The latest season of Shark Tank India is only 7 episodes old, and it has already provided the viewers with some high-octane drama and entertainment. The latest episode gave the ‘sharks’ a reality check about their brands and the start-ups they nurtured over the years. A recent graduate, Ashish Kamathi, showcases his AI optimisation tool Vryse, which helps brands rank on different AI platforms and increase the visibility of their products online. He appeared before a panel of ‘sharks that included Namita Thapar, Vineeta Singh, Kunal Bahl, Varun Alagh and Anupam Mittal.
He started his pitch by saying, “My mother and ChatGPT are best friends. She refers to the platform for every piece of information, whether it is recipes or product reviews; after all, it is fast and convenient. Now products are discovered on AI, and if products are not visible on AI platforms, they won’t sell. My company Vryse is an AI optimisation platform, which gives your brand visibility in AI answers. Our suggestion model analyses your website and products and provides you suggestions for increasing your visibility on AI.”
Ashish then asked ChatGPT to suggest to him the best sleep gummies available in India. The results showed the product What’s Up Sleep, which is a product Vineeta Singh invested in. Namita Thapar, who owns the pharma company Emcure, recently came out with their sleep gummies called Arth. Namita’s face dropped upon seeing the results as she said, “Hello, mai kaha hoon? (Where am I?) “Vineeta could be seen celebrating on her chair, as Anupam Mittal also poked some fun at Namita.
He also revealed that he dropped IIM-Indore to build his business. “I gave the CAT exam to remove myself from the placement season during college. I cleared that and got an offer from IIM Indore as well, but I decided to turn that down and continue what I was building.”
Vineeta then pointed out that this is a good space to get in, given the current times, and said, “You have brought up something important, because so many brands worked on SEO, and now that’s become nothing. Because 60% of searches result in 0 clicks, because most of it is happening through AI.” She then asked Ashish about his journey into this market and how he came up with the product.
The young entrepreneur replied, “When I was in second year, I was thinking of launching a SaaS (Software as a Service) product in the future. I looked at many such products and realised that marketing is the biggest move. So I entered SEO in 2021, and I used it for one of my own websites. I did some internships after that, while I was still studying.” This story got a couple of claps from the ‘sharks’, who lauded his determination and the path he chose in order to increase his skill before even graduating college.
‘Sharks’ Kunal Bahl, Namita Thapar, and Varun Alagh all bowed out, but Vineeta and Anupam decided to offer Ashish a deal. The initial ask by him was Rs 40 lakh for 2% equity, but both Anupam and Vineeta offered him Rs 40 lakh for 10%. After some negotiations, Anupam told Ashish, “Your first client after signing with me will be Shaadi.Com, and then 10 more clients will roll in automatically.” Ashish jumped at the offer and secured Rs 40 lakh for 10%.
