
With an aim to educate students on the need to protect environment, an awareness campaign has been launched in the city with the help of various non-government organisations NGOs. The campagin would cover 150 schools .
A pledge that inspires students to protect the environment has been included in a CD, which will be distributed among the students.
The contents of the CD will be in English, Marathi and Hindi and will consist of fifteen slides. 8220;We have already begun the process and hope to reach all the 150 schools by the year end. Students from all the standards will be shown the CD and will be a part of the drive,8221; said Chandrashekhar Rokde, Deputy Municipal Commissioner, MCGM. 8220;We have aimed to reach 150 schools but more schools may be included later,8221; Rokde added.
The campaign is being conducted by Paryavaran Mitra and the Clean Mumbai Foundation, along with the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai MCGM, the Rotary Club of Bombay, the ladies wing of the Indian Merchants Chamber and the Children8217;s Movement for Civic Sense.
8220;We have been working for environmental causes for the past four years and have been conducting drives to plant trees and create awareness on various environmental issues. We want to involve the children of these 150 schools so that they can make a difference,8221; said Anand Tuscano, regional co-ordinator, West, Paryavaran Mitra. 8220;We want to build a relationship with these children,8221; he added.
The awareness drive will be followed by other activities in the schools including cleanliness drives, tree plantation drives, awareness rallies, essay competitions, poster making competitions, drawing competitions nature trails among others. 8220;Once the presentation is over, there will be more activities to motivate the schools to continue spreading awareness,8221; said Tuscano.
