Pakistan bounce back in Test
India today squandered its opportunities with its middle order batsmen caving in against the fury of the Pakistani fast bowling to leave the first Test of the tri-nation series wide open at the end of the second day. New opener S Ramesh once again showed grit and determination to top score with 79 runs even as his illustrious peers Rahul Dravid (24), Sachin Tendulkar (0), Mohd Azharuddin (23) and Saurav Ganguly (17) disappointed a crowd of almost 1,00,00 at the Eden Gardens to leave India all out for 223.

Indians nervous
Vasudevan Baskaran managed a wry smile as he caught some officials waving at the Indian team bus at the Qaid-e-Azam Airport today. He then quickly looked away, mumbled something to his boys and then lapsed into silence. The warm welcome here had failed to enthuse the coach and weary team. The Lahore defeat seemed to be preying on their minds, as they looked out of the bus windows. And then quiet lot, and the convoy escorted by some 100 policemen sped through the streets of this commercial capital of Pakistan.

Punjab lose
Veteran off-spinner Kanwaljit Singh (6/64) propelled Hyderabad to a stunning 24-run victory over Punjab on the fourth and final day of the Ranji Trophy Group `A’ Super League today. Bowling in tandem with left-arm spinner Venkatapathy Raju (3/48), he turned the tables on Punjab, who had a target of 177 runs for victory in 53 overs, including 15 mandatory overs. But the visitors, who at one time were cruising at 109 for 2 in 24.9 overs, were skittled out for 152.

Railways draw
Hosts Railways managed a draw plus three points from their four-day Ranji Trophy Super League match against Maharashtra today.
