Men pretending to be Good Samaritans rob road accident victim of Rs 80,000 in Mysuru
Police have arrested two Mysuru residents for robbing the factory worker who met with an accident while returning home after a night shift.
According to a police officer, the accident took place around 1.34 am.
Two men have been arrested in Karnataka’s Mysuru district for allegedly exploiting the vulnerable condition of a factory worker injured in a road accident to steal Rs 80,000 from his bank account last week.
The victim, Ganesh, was returning home on his two-wheeler after completing a night shift at a factory in Kadakola, on the outskirts of Mysuru, on December 17, when a dog suddenly crossed his path. He fell from the vehicle and sustained injuries that left him unconscious on the roadside, according to the police.
The police said two men then approached Ganesh pretending to offer help to transport him to a hospital. After gaining Ganesh’s trust, the men took his mobile phone, forcibly obtained his UPI PIN, and fraudulently transferred Rs 80,000 from his bank account. They abandoned Ganesh, leaving his mobile phone behind, and fled.
According to a police officer, the accident took place around 1.34 am. It was around 3 am that someone who worked in the same factory noticed Ganesh lying on the ground and took him to JSS Hospital.
Ganesh’s brother, Ankanayaka B S, a resident of Benkipura village in Hunsur taluk, filed a complaint at the Mysuru district CEN police station on December 19.
The police said the arrested men–identified as Ramesh G, 25, and Manu, 25, both residents of Mysuru– had transferred Rs 80,000 from Ganesh’s account to one Pallavi V in three transactions. They have recovered the money from the accused.
