A short visit to a museum turned into an exorbitant affair after a Chinese boy accidentally broke a 2 kg golden phoenix crown worth Rs 2.3 crore while taking photographs at an exhibition in Beijing. According to the South China Morning Post, the boy was visiting the event with his family and was fascinated by the crown.

The report stated that the incident first came to light when Zhang Kaiyi, an influencer with over 13 million followers, shared a video reporting it. She shared that the crown was made by her husband, Zhang Yudong, as a wedding gift. The CCTV footage capturing the incident has since gone viral and shows the boy touching the display case, which was further toppled, eventually damaging the crown.

The video garnered over eight lakh views, igniting an array of reactions. Numerous users backed the boy, slamming the event organisers for poor safety management. “What a dumb museum. Why would you not secure the glass protector. Entirely the museums fault,” a user wrote.

“Thats because the case was made in China. If it was made in Germany or USA you could take a sledge to it and it would be fine,” another user commented. “Doesn’t look very safely stored though,” a third user reacted. ”

The report further stated that Kaiyi, who is seven months pregnant, said they were very upset as the crown symbolised their love. They also expressed fear that the incident would bring bad luck to their marriage and pregnancy. However, she emphasised that she doesn’t intend to blame the boy and his family.

In June, a tourist couple damaged an artwork called Van Gogh’s Chair, covered in Swarovski crystal,s while attempting to sit on it at an Italian museum. The CCTV footage captured the couple fleeing the scene after damaging the chair.
