The comedians once again held their court, although this time, the king was missing in action. While the terror attack on Mumbai has grounded Jaspal Bhatti, Sameep Kang, director of the Punjabi comedy releasing this Friday, Chakk De Phatte, after much pleading and praying managed to fly to Chandigarh with the prints of his film. Others who joined him were Gurpreet Ghuggi, Jaswinder Bhalla, Vivek Shauq and Mahie Gill at the Fun Republic for a curtain raiser today.
“The city culture has crept into the villages of Punjab, so this film has a urban feel to it. The language, the texture, the treatment is young and energetic and easy to understand,” Vivek talks about ‘Chakk De Phatte’, a “rapturous comical thriller” produced and directed by Sameep Kang and Kshitij Chaudhary under Sameep Kang Productions. “It’s a drama of idiosyncrasies and typical Punjabi characters yearning to marry a rich NRI girl,” tells Vivek. “It’s perhaps one of the first Punjabi films to have so many top notch comedians under one reel,” says Sameep adding how the movie revolves around this bunch of idiotic characters. “We all try to outdo and outwit each other to get the girl,” laughs Ghuggi looking forward to his releases: Sadiyaan, Ek – Power of One, Tera Mera Ki Rishta, Lagda Ishq Ho Gaya, Jag Jundiya De Mele and Ladh Gaya Pecha.
“It’s a light, entertaining movie without any serious overtones except for the message to shun social bigotry and lust for easy gateaways to riches and fame. Entertainment, as the title ‘Chakk De Phatte’ conveys, is the overwhelming essence and what follows is the riot of laughter and rib-tickling comedy,” adds Ghugghi. Watch out!
