NEW DELHI, March 27: Railway Board Chairman V K Agarwal today said the ministry had begun preparing the status paper on railway finances and a white paper on the position of railway projects. A status paper on suburban rail services in the four metros, obstruction of rail services in Danapur division of eastern railway and another paper on all round improvement in passenger amenities were also being prepared.

Opening a two-day conference of railway officials here today, Agarwal said these status papers would help the new government in taking some far reaching decisions for all round improvement of rail services.

Expressing his concern over over passenger amenities, he said functioning of drivers and rail fracture were two critical areas requiring immediate concerted measures. In this connection, he said, cooperation of European Rail Research Institute and United States Rail Road Research has been sought.

The Railway Board chairman also said consolidated manuals were being compiled for management,training, sanitation and environment, waste disposal, customer care, communication and computerisation.
