JAMMU, Sept 27: A new three-tier security system for tackling infiltration and dealing with militancy in the deep areas of Rajouri, Poonch, Udhampur and Doda districts of Jammu region has come into operation.
The scheme 8211; Police Security Grid 8211; involves setting up of border, defence and operational posts from border villages to interior areas of the four affected districts, senior police officials told PTI here today. The plan envisages to set up about 90 border posts in border districts of Rajouri and Poonch.
Defence posts numbering 385 and 118 operational posts were being established in Doda, Udhampur, Rajouri and Poonch districts.
Police officials said the system would help in gradual take-over of anti-militancy operations by Jammu and Kashmir Police from the army and other para-military forces in near future.
Since management of the line of control LoC was exclusively with the army, the role of police was limited, they said, adding, however, a second line of check was required behind fivekilometre protected area by setting up of border posts.
These border posts will work as deterrent against infiltration by collecting intelligence information, besides identifying harbourers, border crossers and those providing shelter to militants after they cross over to this side, officials said.
Defence posts were being established inside the villages with a view to instill the confidence among villagers that government has ability to protect their lives and property and also check free movement of militants. These posts will also exercise command and control directly over a group of village defence committees VDCs under its influence.
