As anticipation builds for Bridgerton season 4, the show’s lead stars have officially stepped into their promotional era, and one unexpected revelation has already taken the internet by storm.

While fans eagerly await the premiere of Bridgerton season 4, Part 1, set to arrive on Netflix on January 29, lead actors Luke Thompson and Yerin Ha have begun a series of global press appearances. The upcoming season shifts its focus to Benedict Bridgerton, played by Thompson.

During a promotional interaction with Indian television host Sakshma Srivastav, Thompson revealed that he has Indian ancestry. “I’m actually a quarter Indian,” he said, immediately shocking both Srivastav and Yerin Ha, who were seen reacting with open-mouthed surprise.

Elaborating further, Thompson added, “Yeah, yeah, my gran’s Indian. Indian-English, but yeah.” He then clarified, “It’s further up the family tree,” further expressing gratitude towards Indian fans for their love and support of the series.

The actor also shared his interest in visiting India, noting that he would like to connect more deeply with his roots. The full nine-minute interview, released on YouTube on Friday, quickly gained traction across social media platforms. Fans on X reacted with surprise, with many praising the growing representation in the period drama series and celebrating Thompson’s candid revelation.

With over three million views, the video quickly drew a deluge of reactions. “If his gran is half indian, then he’s eighth (1/8) indian, not a quarter indian. Thats one of his parent,” an X user wrote. “He means his grandmother was a white woman born in India during the Raj, so any time before 1947 which is believable given his age. Ethnically theyre both white,” another user commented.

Simone Ashley, who played Kate Sharma in Bridgerton season 2, has long been recognised as a prominent Bridgerton star with Indian heritage.
