NEW DELHI, May 3: Fine all-round display by Ashish Malhotra (3 for 30 and 34 off 11 balls) helped South Delhi Cricket Club beat Chand Khanna Club by two wickets in the pre-quarterfinal of G G Dutt memorial tournament at Hindu College here today. A 115-run fifth wicket stand between Devashish Kaushik and Sunil Rawat helped Chand Khanna reach 215 for nine. South Delhi were struggling at 108 for five in 21 overs when Sunil Sudan and Raj kapoor added 48 in 5.5 overs to retrieve the position. Again at 174 for eight, it was Malhotra’s big-hitting that helped the team reach the target with two balls remaining.

South Delhi will meet Sonnet in the quarterfinal on Friday. On Tuesday, hosts G G Dutt play Steel Authority of India. It was Atul Malhotra and not Atul Mohindra who scored 93 in Bright Club’s 10-run win over LBS Club in the match yesterday.

IOC-sponsored course begins
New Delhi: The IOC sponsored Solidarity course for this year commenced at the conference hall of Sports Authority of India, Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium today. The course is conducted by the Indian Olympic Association.

The IOA president Suresh Kalmadi was the chief guest at the opening ceremony. The participants constitute 20 elite sports persons, administrators, educationists and women distinguished in their fields. Kalmadi, while inaugurating the course, highlighted the problem areas pertaining to infrastructure, finance, media coverage and the role of government in sports.
