Escotel slashes cell rates

MUMBAI: Cellular service provider Escotel Mobile Communications has slashed its off-peak cellular phone rates to Rs 2 per minute, resulting in a nearly 33 per cent drop. The revised rates will take effect from Saturday.

Calls on Sundays, national holidays and all days between 11 pm and 7 am will be charged Rs 2 per minute. Calls from 7 am to 10 am and 9 pm to 11 pm will be at Rs 4 per minute; and between 10 am and 9 pm at Rs 6 per minute. The charges will be the same under the V-Tel scheme for pre-paid services, except for 7 am to 11 pm when it will be charged at Rs 8 per minute.

Bombay Mercantile donates to NDF

MUMBAI: Bombay Mercantile Cooperative Bank Ltd, the largest urban cooperative bank of the country, donated Rs 25 lakh to National Defence Fund NDF for the rehabilitation of the familes of martyrs of Kargil. Bank chairman E H Turel and managing director Shamim Jazim presented the cheque to the Prime Minister on August 2, 1999. The bankhas also informed the PM about a unique scheme of the bank for rehabilitation of ex-servicemen.

Nilkamal Plastics profits rise in Q1

MUMBAI: The net profit of Nilkamal Plastics has risen sharply by 31 per cent to Rs 6.05 crore Rs 4.64 crore for first first quarter of 1999-2000. It gross sales have risen by 27 per cent to Rs 55.32 crore from Rs 43.40 crore. It is setting up two new units at Vasona and WB.

With the launch of new sections, the companyhopes to achieve a turnover of Rs 150 crore in 1999-2000 against Rs 105 crore last year, according to S B Dangayach, whole-time director of the company.
