
VADODARA, July 22: The Dahod police arrested six arms peddlers belonging to Madhya Pradesh and seized seven 0.32 bore countrymade pistols from their possession during checking of vehicles at Katla outpost on the Gujarat-MP border three days ago.
According to District Superintendent of Police K L N Rao, four people were caught with the firearms from a Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation bus coming from Ujjain and headed for Anand. The firearms were found during a baggage check.
Two others were arrested from Madhya Pradesh on information received from the arrested four. All of them belong to the Silkigar community which is engaged in the manual manufacturing of different kinds of steel and iron utensils and equipment.
During their interrogation, the arrested people admitted that they had been manufacturing countrymade pistols and selling it to their customers in MP as well as Gujarat through their relatives. Rao said that further investigations were on, and hoped that it might lead to solving some robbery cases committed in areas bordering Madhya Pradesh.
In another incident, a truckload of Indian Made Foreign Liquor worth Rs 10 lakh was caught by the Dahod police two days ago. The truck, which was carrying liquor from Daman to Uttar Pradesh, had not obtained a permit for driving through Gujarat, which is a dry state.
