Rani Mukerji says she is scared of her Gen Alpha daughter Adira: ‘Can’t slap her, she would slap me back’
Rani Mukerji opened up about her relationship with her daughter with Aditya Chopra, Adira, and admitted that she finds it difficult to watch her films as she is extremely attached to her.
Rani Mukerji’s 10-year-old daughter Adira Chopra is her biggest cheerleader, the actor revealed in a recent interaction. Rani opened up about her relationship with her daughter and admitted that Adira finds it difficult to watch her films as she is extremely attached to her. The actor also shared that she is “scared” of her daughter, who belongs to Gen Alpha and is fearless in her approach.
Speaking to Zoom, Rani said, “After my dad (Ram Mukherjee) passed away, I really miss getting his feedback on my performance. It is tough, but God balances things. He gave me my daughter. She is extremely close to me and she is extremely proud of me. My daughter has taken my father’s place. She is my biggest cheerleader today. Though she has not seen my films because she’s too attached and she feels sad when she sees me cry, so she finds it difficult to watch me on screen, so she likes to see when I’m dancing and when I am happy on screen. She loves Hichki, Thoda Pyar Thoda Magic and Bunty Aur Babli. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was tough for her to watch, because in the first scene I die, so I couldn’t go beyond that.”
Rani further shared how her daughter does not like seeing her in make-up. She said, “When I am wearing make-up, she tells me mamma, you are not looking like my mother. So when I remove my make up and come to her, she tells me, now you look like my mother.”
Admitting that she is scared of her daughter, Rani said, “She also fires me. She is Gen Alpha, so she fires me and I have to like listen to her. Because every generation changes. Like I used to get slaps from my mom. I can’t expect to do that with her because she would slap me back. During my national award, she was jumping in the house while the national awards was happening. It’s very sweet, but because she is an alpha kid, I am very scared of her.”
Rani won the National Award for her performance in the film Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway, in which she plays an immigrant mother whose children are taken away from her by the government. Talking about how she strongly related to the subject of the film, as it came to her during a difficult phase in her life when she had faced a miscarriage, she said, “When this story came to me, I had actually lost my second child. It was a very emotional period for me where I had a huge sense of loss. When I was going through it, it was during Covid so we were not in the best of spirits because we were isolated and there was a lot of uncertainty in the world.”
Rani married producer Aditya Chopra on April 21, 2014. The couple welcomed their daughter Adira on December 9, 2015. On the work front, the actor is currently awaiting the release of her next film Mardaani 3.
