Anil Kapoor defies age — whether it is with his energy, his agility, or his fitness routine. As such, the 66-year-old does all that it takes to stay fit — whether it is exercising or following a healthy diet. Now, the actor, who is prepping for his next film — Fighter — seems to have added oxygen therapy to his wellness routine, a glimpse of which was shared by fellow actor Anupam Kher.
Recently, Kher shared a picture of Kapoor on Twitter that he captioned: “Arey #KapoorSaab! Aapne bataya nahi chaand par ja rahe ho aap? Unless this machine has something to do with your jawaani ka raaz.” (You didn’t tell us you are going to the moon? Unless this machine has something to do with your youthfulness).
अरे #KapoorSaab! आपने बताया नहीं आप चाँद पे जा रहें हो? Unless this machine has something to do with your जवानी का राज़? 😂🤣 @AnilKapoor pic.twitter.com/eDj3NhxPtT

What is oxygen therapy, and does it have any anti-ageing effects?
According to Dr Vandana Punjabi, dermatologist and trichologist at Khar, and Nanavati Hospital, oxygen therapy involves providing 100 per cent pure oxygen to the body to boost its function and well-being.
“Normally, the air we breathe in provides 21 per cent oxygen. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a therapy where the body receives 100 per cent oxygen in a special chamber where the air pressure is increased to help the lungs get 100 per cent oxygen. This therapy has proven to be very good for certain conditions like carbon monoxide poisoning, gangrene, non-healing ulcers, and sudden hearing loss of unknown etiology,” Dr Punjabi told indianexpress.com.
Adding, she said that hyperbaric oxygen therapy may aid the anti-ageing process through several mechanisms such as stem cell regeneration, reducing inflammatory factors, reducing free radicals and having antioxidant benefits which improve blood circulation, reduce senescent cells in various body tissues, and helps in cognitive function.
“It also helps in skin rejuvenation by decreasing senescent cells, increasing elastin and collagen fibres density, increasing angiogenesis and reducing melanin in skin. However, despite being a promising treatment, the effects are still under study,” the expert mentioned.
According to her, this therapy may also reverse intrinsic ageing and photoageing to some extent. “However, all research on this matter has been conducted in vitro and mild hyperbaric oxygen therapy (32-36 per cent). Scientists are still trying to figure out the optimal atmospheric pressure, oxygen concentration and time of treatment for maximal skin benefit,” said Dr Punjabi.
Dr Punjabi elaborated
-Investigators need to determine the exact protocols related to oxygen pressure, exposure time, frequency of intervals and number of sessions in order to optimise treatment conditions.
-Also, the optimal age for seeking the therapy to yield significant protective effects against ageing needs to be described.
“There are many unanswered questions regarding this therapy for anti-ageing although this treatment seems to have a great potential,” she said.
