Earlier speculation suggested the film was based on the life of the late Army officer Major Mohit Sharma. However, filmmaker Aditya Dhar took to X to dismiss these claims. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has also cleared the film for release, following a re-examination prompted by objections from Major Sharma’s parents. The Delhi High Court had directed the CBFC to consider their concerns, which alleged the movie mirrored the late officer’s life. After review on Tuesday, December 2, the board confirmed that Dhurandhar is a work of fiction with no biographical connection to Major Sharma.
According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the film has received an A certificate and clocks in at three hours, thirty-four minutes, and one second, making it the longest Bollywood release in 17 years. The film’s soundtrack, composed by Shashwat Sachdev with lyrics by Irshad Kamil, has already created a stir online. Notably, the title track is a remake of the 1995 song “Na Dil De Pardesi Nu,” while “Ishq Jalakar” (Karvaan), a recreated version of the Hindi qawwali “Na To Karvan Ki Talash Hai” from Barsaat Ki Raat, is topping charts. Dhurandhar also marks Aditya Dhar’s second directorial venture after the massive success of Uri: The Surgical Strike.

Sharing why his family sought a stay on the release of the Ranveer Singh-starrer Dhurandhar, Major Mohit Sharma's elder brother Madhur Sharma told NDTV, "We had no other way to get closure, because as family and parents of a son like Mohit, what you need to know is whether someone has taken the courage to carry the legacy forward. If so, it's a proud moment and we would give all our support. If it does not relate to what Mohit is known for and revered for, then we should have clarity. As parents, they should know whether this relates to their son or not."

I assure you, if we do make a biopic on Mohit sir in the future, we will do it with full consent and in complete consultation with the family, and in a way that truly honors his sacrifice for the nation and the legacy it has left for all of us. Fans may have to wait a little longer to watch the IMAX version of the Ranveer Singh-starrer Dhurandhar, as the delivery of the IMAX content has reportedly been delayed. The film’s team is currently working hard to resolve the issue.
A source told Bollywood Hungama, “There has been a delay in the delivery of IMAX content of Dhurandhar. The makers of the team are trying their best, but it seems like on Friday, the content won’t reach the IMAX theatres. Hence, theatres have been informed to play the non-IMAX version of Dhurandhar in the IMAX properties on Friday. However, the team is racing against time to ensure this doesn’t happen. As a result, there is a chance that the IMAX presentation will begin playing in cinemas from Friday evening though there are high chances that the content will be made available only on Saturday. A clearer picture will emerge by Thursday night.”
