Marathi Ghazals

A ghazal sounds sonorous in Urdu and Hindi but one might wonder what the experience would be like if one were to listen to a Marathi ghazal. Singer and songwriter Shirish Kulkarni is set to clear all doubts with a performance of Marathi ghazals titled Saanj Dhoon. Written and composed by him,with a tinge of Sufi and western flavours,Kulkarni tries to relate his lyrics to a person’s day-to-day life. Accompanied by just a keyboard rhythm by Vijay Mashidkar,the programme will be held on March 17 at Anganmanch,Lalit Kala Kendra,Pune University from 7 pm to 9 pm.

Street Act

NGO Ujjawala and the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development,along with Swatantra Theatre,is presenting a street play titled Mujhe Jeene Do. It revolves around human trafficking and sexual exploitation and how women and children are lured from across the borders in hope of a better life. Directed by Abhijeet Choudhary,founder of Swantantra Theatre,the play will be performed on Saturday and Sunday at several locations in the city such as Deccan,Pune Station,Karve Road and Kamla Nehru Park.
