Message sender traced to Pune

Police said a link of students from whom the paper was passed on to the complainant’s friend had been identified.

Two days after a student of the Government Polytechnic in Jalgaon reported that a question paper had been leaked on WhatsApp,the sender of the message had been traced to Pune, police said.

Police said a link of students from whom the paper was passed on to the complainant’s friend had been identified. “We have analysed the messages and traced the sender of the original message. The location of that phone has been shown as a diploma college in Ambegaon,Pune. We will send a team there on Friday,” said Prashant Bachhav,Sub-Divisional Police Officer,Jalgaon division.

A second-year diploma student of electronics and telecommunications engineering saw the third semester applied maths paper on the WhatsApp account of his friend on Monday night and reported the matter to college authorities the next day. The other student told the police that he received a picture of the question paper on a WhatsApp group.

“Since the exams are underway,we haven’t yet been able to record detailed statements of both students. Our probe will move quickly once the exams are over in a week,” said Bachhav. He added that the paper had passed through three other students before it reached the complainant’s friend. “The first link is a third-year student, who passed the image to a classmate. He in turn sent it to a second-year student, who forwarded it to the group.”
