BJP leader,brother shot dead

Former UP BJP executive committee member Yashpal Singh Chauhan and his brother Anil were shot dead.

Former UP BJP executive committee member Yashpal Singh Chauhan and his brother Anil were shot dead allegedly because of a business dispute in Jawa area of Aligarh district on Thursday, police said.

Two of Chauhan’s nephews and a passerby were injured. Aligarh SSP Satyendra Vir Singh said a dispute over money with a business partner seemed to be behind the shooting.

Chauhan (52) used to deal in scrap from the Kasimpur power house in Jawa for the past several years. The SSP said that around 2 pm,Chauhan, his brother Anil and two nephews,Pushpendra and Sanket, were returning home after visiting Kasimpur branch of Punjab National Bank.

They left the bank in a car when Chauhan’s business partner,Pramod Raghav, stopped the car at Kasimpur market. Chauhan got down and exchanged heated words with Raghav. At this time, youths on two motorcycles drove up,aiming at Chauhan and fired,Singh said.

Chauhan and Anil (45) suffered bullet injuries on the chest and head. A passerby,Vivek Rathore, was injured in the leg. The assailants escaped while locals rushed the injured to Aligarh medical college. Chauhan and his brother were declared dead on arrival. The condition of his nephews was critical.

The SSP told The Indian Express that Chauhan and Raghav had a dispute over sharing profit from the scrap business a year ago. Raghav moved court and the Allahabad High Court recently ordered a stay on the sale and purchase of scrap at the power house till the next order.

Raghav, however, was forcing Chauhan to return the amount invested by him. The amount was estimated to be in crores, the SSP added. Since Chauhan was not ready to return the money before a court order,Raghav got him eliminated,Singh said.
