Trader,domestic help shot at
A 40-year-old trader and his domestic help were shot at near Deshbandhu College during the early hours of Sunday. The trader,a resident of Kalkaji,identified as Anup Kumar Juneja,also had cases reported against him in the local police station and was as a listed bad character. According to the police the incident might be the result of a personal feud. Juneja,also is a property dealer,is believed to have been at constant loggerheads with other anti-social elements in the locality. The police was informed about the shootout near Deshbandhu College around 1 am. The injured were rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Centre where their state is said to be critical. A case under Section 307 (attempt to murder) has been lodged at the Kalkaji police station.
Woman attempts self-immolation
A 29-year-old woman suffered burn injuries after she attempted to immolate herself at her residence in Subhash Park,Northeast Delhi,on Sunday. The woman,Rajni,who claims to be a worker of the BJP,allegedly resorted to the extreme step after her family members refused to allow her to go for an outing with her friends, a police officer said. Rajni suffered 70 per cent burns,the police said. She just wanted to scare her family to get permission and therefore poured kerosene over herself. But her clothing came in contact with a burning candle accidentally, the officer said.
Three persons were arrested on Friday for their alleged involvement in a series of robberies,including one at the house of a senior citizen and another at a jewellery shop. The police identified the accused as Jai Ram,31,Manoj Srivastava,28 and Manoj Verma,28 (the receiver of stolen goods). Two illicit firearms,ammunition and jewellery have been recovered from them. The police said the accused were arrested from near Millennium Park.
Man arrested for rape
Ghaziabad: A 25-year-old mentally unstable woman was allegedly raped by a rickshaw-puller on Sunday. The police said the incident took place around 4.30 am and a passerby informed them. A case has been registered at the Kotwali police station. The police said identified the accused as Mansoor,a resident of Gaushala Phatak in Ghaziabad.
CCTV cameras at Metro parking lots
Parking lots next to Delhi Metro stations might soon be brought under CCTV surveillance. A recent security audit conducted by a joint team of central security agencies has suggested that parking lots next to vital station complexes like Connaught Place,Patel Chowk and Karol Bagh should be brought under CCTV surveillance. Sources in the Central Industrial Security Force said that almost 500 to 600 CCTV cameras might be needed to secure the areas identified at 82 operational stations,but the actual numbers are still to be worked out.
