The setting up of e-sampark centres in some sectors is facing hurdles with work yet to be started. While in some case the site approval for proposed centers became an obstacle,in others the allotment of work was delayed.
The e-sampark centres are providing a number of facilities including payment of electricity and water bills,sale of stamp paper,issue of bus passes,birth and death certificates,tenant registration,etc. Residents can also file applications under Right to Information Act at these centres.
In Sector 21,the approval of site for the centre had created division of opinion within the sector. After the approval of the site,tenders were invited that yielded no result. Finally the single tender that was received for the construction was accepted.
Area councillor Anju Beniwala said that the construction of the e-sampark centre in the sector would finally start. There were hurdles in the allotment of tenders as a satisfactory response was not received. The construction is expected to start. The setting up of the centre will facilitate the residents by providing some essential services, she said.
The councillors of all wards have raised the demand for setting up e-sampark centres in their respective wards. However,the UT Administration is reportedly of the opinion that one e-sampark centre will be able to serve the residents of a few adjoining sectors and there was no need for a centre at every sector.
An e-sampark centre at Sector 32 received approval after two years with the site having been shifted a number of times.
Mayor Ravinder Pal Singh said that the demand of all councillors were discussed with the Administration during the recent co-ordination committee meeting.
