May dogs trouble you

City residents are quite perturbed by the menace of stray dogs with hordes of them present on every nook and corner of the city. One such harassed resident has posted a message on the wall of Mayor Anu Chatrath’s Facebook account. It reads,“Shukar hai tuhade vehde vich baandran ne tang keeta te Chandigarh nu helpline number mil gaya. Kaash tuhanu koi kutta vi tang kare taaki Chandigarh da kuttian to vi chutkara ho sake” (We are thankful that monkeys troubled you in your courtyard and Chandigarh got a helpline to deal with the problem. We wish that some dogs also trouble you so that the city could get rid of the menace).

Juvenile law: Lessons for SSP

At a press conference after the arrest of the two juveniles in murder case, the UT SSP Naunihal Singh, when asked a query regarding the modus operandi of the accused replied,“We will take the two minors into police custody for further investigations”. While answering this, the senior official forgot that by the time he was addressing the media, the two minors were already lodged in juvenile home in Sector 25 and they being juveniles, they were not taken into police custody.

Blame game

With change in the post of party president for the student political party PUSU (Panjab University Students’ Union),started counter-bashing by the two factions emerged out of the party, through press releases each supported by names of party stalwarts. Blaming each other for the recent clash at Panjab University students’ centre, the two groups did not leave any chance to reinforce the accusations by repeated phone calls one after the other. Least did they realise, that between all this internal fight within the party, the opposition party SOPU (Students’ Organisation of Panjab University) celebrated the chain of events as these seemed to turn out to be in their favour without putting any efforts by them.

Firing incident not ‘serious enough’ for FIR

While the senior police officers have been claiming they have been registering cases of petty crimes and their is free registration of cases,an incident as big as firing in posh Sector 44 area doesn’t seem to be serious enough for them to register an FIR. While windowpanes of two cars outside Army Flats were damaged as bullets pierced through them, all the UT police did was to register a daily diary report in the police station at Sector 34.

Arrear bonanza for PU employees

The recent announcement of release of arrears by the Panjab University Vice-Chancellor,the staff already seems to be busy deciding how to ‘utilise’ the accumulated amount they would receive. While some are planning to change the models of their cars, others are busy surfing travel websites for vacation trips, both domestic and international. There are also a few who want to save it for the future of their children’s education or weddings.

Unity in diversity!

The coronation ceremony of Capt Amarinder Singh as the new PPCC chief once again brought to fore the factionalism among the party cadre at the grass roots level. To show their respective strength, four rival factions of the Congress party in Mohali held their separate congregations and led separate groups of their followers to the coronation ceremony. No doubt all four rival leaders are strong contenders for party ticket but it’s for sure that all of them will not get it. Then what? Those denied will be party rebels? Hope Captain will play the game more cautiously to win all his rival teammates, this time!

Leave no stone unturned

These days a notice is worth reading, pasted at the Golf Club,Chandigarh, which reads that “Gill Sahib ki anguthi ka nag gir gaya hai. Dhoondne waale ko 10,000 inaam diya jayega” (anybody who finds Mr Gill’s ring’s stone will be rewarded with Rs 10,000). It would definitely be a task to find out a ring’s stone in the place like a golf course of the club. Let’s see who finds the precious stone.

Friends turn foe

It’s friends turning foes for those supporting ousted Punjab Finance Minister Manpreet Badal. The same was evident when till recently Manpreet’s supporter Independent MLA Charanjit Singh Channi’s close aide Himmat Singh Desumajra (Kharar Municipal Council senior vice-president) came out with allegation of “bribing” Channi Rs 1 crore. Who knows when it will be vice-versa with foes turning friends in times to come?
