Despite the cessation of hostilities, the Korean War never formally ended. The armistice agreement of July 27, 1953, means North and South Korea are technically still at war. This unresolved state of affairs continues to influence the region's geopolitics.

Colonel M K Unni Nayar was the only Indian killed during the Korean War whose remains could not be brought back from South Korea. To this day, every year, on June 25, marked as Korean War Day in South Korea, officials in Daegu pay tribute to Nayar in honour of his services during the war.
