The Supreme Court has directed a speedy trial in the 2016 Surjagarh arson case against lawyer-activist Surendra Gadling, who has been in jail for seven years without a trial. Gadling requested bail and claimed innocence, while also highlighting the lack of a presiding judge in the Aheri court and the possibility of inspecting original documents within a week.
