The wife of West Bengal BJP MLA Hiran Chatterjee, Anindita Chatterjee, said Thursday that she has filed a complaint against him after photos of his purported second marriage surfaced on social media, accusing him of ‘torture’ and marrying without getting a divorce from her.
Anindita Chatterjee said she filed the complaint against her husband as well as his alleged second wife, Ritika Giri, at the Anandapur Police Station in Kolkata. Earlier, social media posts showed the Kharagpur Sadar MLA posing with Giri, a model, after their marriage in Varanasi.
Anindita Chatterjee said, “We have been married since December 11, 2000. We also have a 19-year-old daughter. I was facing torture for a long time, but I maintained silence for the sake of my daughter and our family.”
According to her, Hiran Chatterjee used to visit them while taking a break from his political work in his Assembly constituency in West Midnapore district.
Earlier in the day, Giri, the alleged second wife of the BJP MLA, posted on social media, “Wrong information has been given about my age. She (Anindita) has been sent a legal divorce letter. We have been together for the last five years, and Anindita knew about all this.”
Giri further said, “My account was public. Nothing was hidden. So where was she all these years, and why didn’t she raise any questions then?”
Responding to Giri’s statement, Anindita said, “All the allegations that the girl has made are false. She says she has been with my husband for the past five years. But I was with him during the 2021 election campaign, and she was there as a party worker.

“I used to hear whispers about their affair. My friends would show me pictures from the girl’s social media account, but Hiran’s face was never revealed.”
Anindita Chatterjee also said that Hiran Chatterjee has not contacted them since the news of his second marriage broke.
Meanwhile, Hiran Chatterjee’s daughter, Niyasa, told The Indian Express, “My father should have been the person to break the news, but instead I am getting to know about it from social media.
“I was returning from college when my mother called and asked me to check my phone. I saw my friends had sent me screenshots of my father and the girl’s wedding pictures. For me, my father can only be married to my mother. I really do not know how to handle the situation.”
