Many states have announced a virtual lockdown with educational institutions, gyms, swimming pools, etc, being shut.
On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had called for a janata curfew on Sunday, March 22, in the wake of novel coronavirus outbreak.
The decision to lockdown the districts was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by the Cabinet Secretary and the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister with chief secretaries of all the states.
However, essential services will be allowed to operate in the 75 districts. Moreover, the Centre has also decided to close down metro rail services on all operational networks across the country till March 31.
The Karnataka state government on Sunday decided to run a war room from the Govt Guest House Balabrooie in Bengaluru around the clock. "The war room will be led by the CM himself and will now operate 24x7 to house helplines and in the coming days, will keep track of contact tracing and community surveillance activities," a health department official said.
