At least six Taliban militants, including a commander of the terror outfit, were killed on Saturday in a fierce gun battle with security forces in Pakistan’s southern port city of Karachi.

“We have recovered six bodies from the spot and these militants belong to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Maulana Fazlullah group and we have also recovered heavy cache of weapons from them,” Rao Anwar, Senior Superintendent Police of Malir, told PTI.

The commander, Ahmed, who was wounded in a drone attack was brought to Karachi for treatment and was hiding in Saadi town. Police surrounded the house in Saadi town on a intelligence tip off, Anwar said.

“As soon as we got there the militants responded with heavy firing but in retaliation we have killed seven militants,” Anwar said.

The outlawed TTP has conducted numerous attacks in the country, including a attack on Pakistan’s largest international airport in Karachi last year that killed 39 people.
