IndiGo cancelled 400 flights: The airline cancelled over 400 flights from four major airports on Saturday, a day after managing to temporarily secure major relaxations in the second phase of the court-mandated new flight duty and rest period norms for the cockpit crew, sources said.
DTA issues advisory for commuters: The Delhi Airport Authority, on its X handle, posted an advisory for travellers at 10.15 am on saturday saying that while flight operations are now ‘steadily resuming and getting back to normalcy,’ some IndiGo flights continue to be affected and that passengers are advised to check the latest flight status with the airline before arriving at the airport.

CPI Rajya Sabha MP P Sandosh Kumar on Monday demanded a cap on airfares following the IndiGo disruptions.
He said passengers deserve protection from predatory pricing not only during crises but also during predictable periods of high demand, such as festivals.

Demanding a probe into the IndiGo flight disruptions, the CPI(M) on Monday said that the aviation crisis being witnessed in India is a natural consequence of the structural deficiency that has been created in the air transport sector over the years.
In a statement issued here, the CPI(M) expressed strong resentment over the "complete disregard for air travellers in the country".

IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers and COO Isidre Porqueras have filed replies to the show cause notices issued by the aviation safety regulator DGCA over the airline's massive flight disruptions, an airline source said on Monday.
The two top executives of the airline were given until 6 pm on Monday to file replies to the notices.
"Chief Executive Officer Pieter Elbers and Chief Operating Officer Isidre Porqueras have filed replies to the show cause notice," an IndiGo source confirmed to PTI.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation-appointed panel investigating the flight disruptions at IndiGo is likely to summon the airline's CEO Pieter Elbers and Chief Operating Officer Isidre Porqueras on Wednesday as part of the ongoing probe, the PTI reported on Monday citing a source.
The four-member panel, comprising Joint DG Sanjay Brahamane, Deputy Director General Amit Gupta, senior Flight Operations Inspector Kapil Manglik, and FOI Lokesh Rampal, has been tasked with identifying the root causes of widespread operational disruptions. — PTI
Former Union minister Prithviraj Chavan of the Congress on Monday said the growing monopoly in the aviation sector poses a "serious threat" to economy and affects passenger interest, and demanded crisis-hit IndiGo be split into two companies to ensure fair competition.
Talking to reporters here, Chavan noted only two major players now dominate India's air travel -- IndiGo with 65 per cent market share and the Tata Group (Air India and AI Express) with nearly 30 per cent pie. — PTI

IndiGo airlines on Monday issued a statement saying it is "all set to operate over 1,800 flights" by the end of the day. "After the recent disruptions, IndiGo has recorded considerable and consistent improvement across the network. Today, we are all set to operate over 1800 flights, connecting all stations that we operate to. We have optimized our operations and managed to reduce the number of cancellations which are being notified to customers in advance, and our on-time performance (OTP) has also improved to 91% across the network," the statement read.
A passenger stranded at Guwahati Airport told ANI, "I had come from Jaipur and had a return ticket for 5th December in an IndiGo flight scheduled at 5.55 PM. It was cancelled and there was a lot of chaos at the airport, due to which the staff closed the window and we went back... I tried for 3 days, but neither my ticket was rescheduled nor did the grievance contact number respond... We finally booked a ticket on Air India flight 2 days ago, which cost us Rs 25,800. IndiGo has not refunded our money, though we are trying..."

Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu said in the Rajya Sabha on Monday that the government has initiated an inquiry into Indigo's mass flight cancellations and will take strict action against the operator to set an example for other airlines.
Blaming the airlines for its failure to manage the crew and duty roster through its day-to-day operations, Naidu said, “We are not taking this situation easily. We are doing an inquiry. We will take very, very strict action not only for this situation but also as an example.” To the questions raised by Congress MP Pramod Tiwari, who wanted to know whether the Indigo crisis was caused by a fault in the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS), a technical issue that disrupted flight services in early November 2025. — PTI
Indigo has delivered 4,500 bags to the passengers out of the total 9,000, and will deliver the remaining in the next 36 hours, the Civil Aviation ministry said in a statement on Monday. It also said that 5,86,705 PNRs for period December 1-7 were cancelled and refunded, amounting to total Rs 569.65 crore. Total 9,55,591 PNRs for period November 21 to December 7 were also cancelled and refunded, amounting to Rs 827 crore.

Amid a spree of cancellations, IndiGo on Monday cancelled 500 flights and plans to operate 1,802 flights to 137 out of 138 destinations, the Civil Aviation Ministry informed.
The Supreme Court on Monday refused an urgent hearing on a plea seeking intervention into IndiGo’s mass flight cancellations, saying the Centre has already stepped in to address the crisis.
A bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant, with Justice Joymalya Bagchi, acknowledged the scale of the disruption. “It is a serious matter. Lakhs of people are stranded at airports. We know the Government of India has taken timely action and cognizance of the issue,” the CJI said.
The issue was mentioned by a lawyer who flagged the lack of prior intimation to flyers. He claimed around 2,500 flights had been delayed and passengers were suffering at 95 airports.

A passenger stranded at Guwahati airport said his IndiGo flight to Jaipur on December 5, scheduled for 5.55 pm, was cancelled, leading to chaos at the terminal. He said airline staff shut the counter amid the rush, and despite trying for three days, his ticket was neither rescheduled nor was he able to reach the grievance helpline. He added that he eventually booked an Air India ticket for ₹25,800 two days ago and is still awaiting a refund from IndiGo.

The committee, chaired by JDU MP Sanjay Kumar Jha, is also likely to question officials from the Ministry of Civil Aviation to know “what they have been doing” and representatives of other private airlines “to find out how they got their act together but IndiGo failed”, the sources said.
Days after the Government set up a committee to probe the unprecedented wave of flight cancellations over the past week by IndiGo, the country’s largest carrier is set to face further scrutiny with the Parliamentary Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture likely to summon its top officials over the issue.
Sources said the committee has not yet fixed a date but the issue is “firmly on its mind” and may be taken up in its next sitting.
IndiGo will carry out a "root cause analysis" into the flight disruptions that has happened due to a combination of factors and the focus now is to stabilise operations, which is expected by December 10, a senior airline official told PTI Sunday.
Amid the lack of proper crew planning while implementing the new flight duty norms being cited as a key reason for the significant operational disruptions, the official said the airline has adequate number of pilots and there is no deficiency.
"Our pilot numbers are fine while we may not be have the luxury of having a buffer," the official told PTI.
He also said there has been no hiring freeze amid concerns being raised in certain quarters that lean-operating model might have led to the current situation.
Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol on Sunday promised to take action against Indigo for the flight disruptions that has caused mental distress to scores of passengers across the country, once the four-member committee set up by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) submits its report.
Speaking to reporters in Pune, Mohol said, “Passengers across the country have suffered mental distress and faced many difficulties. They had to endure mental harassment because of IndiGo.”
Blaming the airline for not living up to its responsibilities, the Minister said, “The present crisis has unfolded as certain responsibilities that IndiGo was expected to carry out were not fulfilled. The DGCA has formed an inquiry committee and set up a control room. It has also issued a notice to IndiGo. Limits on ticket sales have been imposed on all airline companies,” he said.
Chaos persisted at the Pune Airport on Sunday as a total of 32 IndiGo flights, including 14 arrivals and 18 departures, were cancelled. Long queues were seen at the IndiGo counters throughout the day as anxious travellers gathered in hopes of retrieving missing baggage and confirming alternate schedules amid repeated disruptions.
Passengers crowded the counter just to confirm whether their flights were still operational.
"IndiGo has so far processed refunds totalling Rs 610 crore. No additional fees are permitted for rescheduling travel impacted by cancellations. Dedicated support cells have been created to proactively assist passengers so that refund and rebooking issues are resolved without delay or inconvenience," the aviation ministry said in a release.
Stating that the ministry has taken rapid and decisive steps to address the disruption caused by the recent IndiGo operational crisis and to ensure that passengers do not face continued inconvenience, it said air travel operations across the country are stabilising at a fast pace.

Refunds totalling Rs 610 crore has been processed so far, says the Civil Aviation Ministry, adding that IndiGo has delivered 3,000 pieces of baggage to passengers across the country.
IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers Sunday said "step by step, we are getting back". Elbers, in an internal video message to the staff, said the airline's On Time Performance (OTP) is expected to be 75 per cent on Sunday.
"Today, we have realised further improvements of the system in order to reach around 1,650 flights," he said.
The video message was from the airline's operational control centre.
"We have been able to execute the cancellations at an earlier stage so that the customers do not show up at the airport in case their flights are cancelled," the CEO said.

After the government introduced airfare caps in the wake of IndiGo flight disruptions, Congress leader P Chidambaram on Sunday said the Ministry of Civil Aviation has finally woken up and demanded that such price containment should remain in force till a duopoly in the airline sector exists.
In a post on X, the former finance minister said, "I am glad that the Ministry of Civil Aviation has woken up at last and capped the Economy Class fares".
"As long the duopoly in the airline sector remains, caps on Economy Class fares must remain in force "Absent robust competition, the only way to protect public interest is price containment. The overwhelming majority of the passengers must be protected (sic)," Chidambaram said.

Seventy-six IndiGo flights were cancelled at the N S C Bose International Airport on Sunday, officials said.
Of the seventy-six IndiGo flights cancelled, 53 were departures and 23 were arrivals, they said.
"IndiGo Flights scheduled departures: 129, scheduled arrivals: 97; cancelled today, departures: 53, arrivals: 23," the Kolkata Airport said in its X handle on Sunday.
IndiGo had cancelled 41 flights—21 arrivals and 20 departures—on Saturday.
On Friday, IndiGo had cancelled 47 flights (arrival and departure) from Kolkata airport.
Several passengers said they faced "harassment" after reaching the airport following multiple reschedules.
"We planned to fly on Sunday to Mumbai, and our work was urgent. But after three reschedules, the flight was cancelled, and the next available ticket was three times the price of our old ticket," said a passenger.

IndiGo’s operations continued to face disruptions across its network Sunday, and Mumbai remained among the worst-affected airports. The city recorded 112 cancellations Sunday, 56 arrivals and 56 departures, the second-highest nationwide after Hyderabad.
According to the airline, it is progressively restoring schedules after days of severe disruption. IndiGo confirmed it is on track to operate more than 1,650 flights Sunday, up from around 1,500 a day earlier. On-time performance rose sharply to 75 per cent, up from nearly 30 per cent the previous day.
IndiGo is operating 1,650 flights of its 2,300 daily domestic and international flights on Sunday, and 650 remain cancelled for the day, amid the airline's operations gradually stabilising after massive disruptions in the last five days, the airline said.
IndiGo also said it is expecting to stabilise the network by December 10 against the earlier anticipated timeline of December 10-15.
In another development, the airline saw its on-time performance from six metro airports on Saturday improving to 20.7 per cent, as per the Civil Aviation Ministry website.

As many as 61 outbound IndiGo flights were cancelled from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on Sunday, airport sources said. Similarly, 56 inbound flights were also cancelled during the day, they added.
In a statement on Saturday, IndiGo said it is working determinedly to restore operations across its network, with teams focusing on stabilising schedules, reducing delays, and supporting customers during this period.
On Saturday, 74 outbound and 70 inbound IndiGo flights had been cancelled from the airport.

IndiGo has cancelled nine flights at the MBB Airport here on Sunday, an official said.
"Due to the ongoing problem, IndiGo has cancelled nine scheduled flights (arrival and departure) from MBB Airport on Sunday. But it will operate two flights as scheduled," MBB Airport Director KM Nehra told PTI.
IndiGo operates 11 flights from Agartala airport, out of which nine were cancelled on Sunday.
On Saturday also IndiGo had cancelled nine flights from Agartala airport.

A parliamentary panel is likely to summon top executives of private airlines and the civil aviation regulator over the mass cancellation of IndiGo flights that has left thousands of travellers stranded across the country's airports.
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture, chaired by JD(U) leader Sanjay Jha, is likely to seek an explanation from top executives of airlines and officials from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Ministry of Civil Aviation about the cause of disruption in air services and possible solutions.

IndiGo cancelled more than 220 flights at Delhi and Mumbai airports on Sunday, as the disruptions entered the sixth day while efforts are on to normalise operations.
The disruptions have resulted in hundreds of flight cancellations and delays in the last few days, causing hardships to thousands of passengers.
Sources said at least 112 flights were cancelled at the Mumbai airport and 109 flights at Delhi airport.
After cancelling approximately 1,600 of its 2,300 daily flights on Friday, the airline saw a reduction in disruptions on Saturday, with cancellations falling to around 800, according to sources.

He said a 4-member probe panel, 24/7 control room and show-cause notice to the CEO are already in place, with FDTL kept in abeyance till Feb 2026.

The IndiGo spokesperson, on Sunday, informed that Board of Directors of InterGlobe Aviation Ltd. (IndiGo) convened on the very first day that widespread flight cancellations and delays began.
It was followed by a closed-door session of Board members, where it was decided to constitute a Crisis Management Group (CMG). The CMG comprising Chairman Vikram Singh Mehta, Board Directors Gregg Saretsky, Mike Whitaker, Amitabh Kant, and CEO Pieter Elbers is overseeing efforts to stabilise operations.
According to the airline, the Board’s urgent focus is to restore operational integrity across IndiGo’s network as swiftly as possible.
The Railways announced 89 special trains across all zones to be operated in the next three days starting Saturday to help people facing travel disruptions due to the mass flight cancellations by IndiGo.
In a coordinated move by the Railway Ministry, the trains, which are to make over 100 trips, were arranged in the shortest possible time after analysis of train traffic situations in major cities such as New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Patna, and Howrah, among others.

Aviation watchdog DGCA on Saturday issued a show cause notice to IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers seeking an explanation for the massive flight disruptions, according to sources.
For five days in a row, IndiGo has seen significant flight disruptions with hundreds of flight cancellations and delays, causing hardships to thousands of passengers.
In the notice, the regulator said the large-scale operational failures indicate significant lapses in planning, oversight and resource management, the sources said.
