Delhi Confidential: The wait

AS THE Joint Committee of Parliament on the One Nation One Election Bills continues its consultations with stakeholders, it is yet to meet representatives of one of the key bodies, the Election Commission. A meeting had been scheduled for December 4, but it is learnt that the EC sought a postponement as Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar was out of town then. It is learnt that the CEC may himself appear before the panel at a later date, as opposed to the usual practice of senior officers of the commission representing it in such meetings.

The invite

SOME LEADERS in the CPI (M-L) Liberation are planning to invite DMK leader and MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi to the party’s state conference in Tamil Nadu’s Thoothukudi on December 12. Thoothukudi is also Kanimozhi’s Lok Sabha seat, and some state DMK leaders have agreed to attend the Left party’s conference. A delegation of CPI (M-L)L leaders is expected to meet Kanimozhi in Delhi to hand over the invite in the coming days. The warmth being extended by the Left party comes with the hope that it can create space in the DMK-led Opposition alliance for the Tamil Nadu polls.
