If you have vowed to lose fat and improve your quality of life, would a regimen of intermittent fasting and walking for 3 months be beneficial? This is what we asked experts. “Pairing intermittent fasting with regular walking for three months can create a noticeable shift in metabolism, energy and overall wellbeing. Both habits complement each other beautifully. Fasting gives the body predictable rest from digestion while walking keeps the metabolism active and supports fat burning in a gentle, sustainable way,” said consultant dietitian Garima Goyal.

Over a consistent three-month period, many people experience gradual fat loss and improved body composition. “Intermittent fasting, or having food only during eating windows, helps regulate insulin levels and encourages the body to mobilise stored fat for energy. Adding walking to the routine, especially brisk or daily walking, increases calorie expenditure and helps preserve lean muscle. This combination often leads to a reduction in waist circumference, better muscle tone and a lighter, more energised feeling,” added Goyal.

There are metabolic benefits as well. Regular walking improves blood circulation, supports heart health and helps maintain stable blood sugar levels. “Fasting allows the digestive system to reset, promotes better appetite control and may help reduce bloating or heaviness if the eating window is balanced. Over time, people often report better digestion, improved sleep quality and a greater sense of mental clarity,” said Goyal.

Walking also plays a major role in improving mood and reducing stress. “When combined with the structured routine of intermittent fasting, it creates a sense of discipline and balance that carries through the rest of the day. Many people find their energy becomes steadier and their stamina improves as their body adapts to using fuel more efficiently,” Goyal said.

However, this routine is effective only when supported with balanced meals, adequate protein, hydration, and enough sleep, contended Goyal. “Intermittent fasting is not suitable for everyone, especially if you have medical conditions, hormonal imbalances or low energy levels. Consistency and mindful nutrition are essential for preventing fatigue, nutrient gaps, or muscle loss,” Goyal said.

So, when done thoughtfully, combining intermittent fasting with walking offers a gentle but impactful way to reset your lifestyle. “It promotes weight balance, better metabolic health and improved daily energy while still being easy to maintain over the long term,” said Goyal.
