Goa Lok Sabha Elections 2024: The 18th Lok Sabha elections in the state of Goa were concluded on Tuesday, May 7, with both its Lok Sabha seats going into polling in phase 3. The state also followed the national trend in 2024 and registered the final voter turnout percentage of 75.20 per cent, which is slightly better than in 2019, when the state had a 75.14 per cent voter turnout. The results of both North Goa and South Goa seats will be announced on Tuesday, June 4, as per the ECI timeline.
National parties like the BJP and Congress have historically been the frontrunners in Goa, as even in the last Lok Sabha Elections, it was these two parties who shared one seat each in the state, making the landscape of upcoming mega elections even more complex.
However, with increased anti-incumbency and possible wins by regional parties in the state assembly elections, the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections will serve as a barometer for their national performance also.
The state of Goa has witnessed a notable increase in the number of regional parties. These parties, such as the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) and the Goa Forward Party (GFP), seek to leverage the sentiments of the local populace. Their success might potentially tip the political balance and potentially pave the way for forming the government in the centre.
The Lok Sabha Elections in the state of Goa are scheduled to take place in the first half of the electoral period, with the official date being May 7.
Phase 3: Date of polling- May 7
The state of Goa has their Lok Sabha Elections organised in a single phase given their limited number of Lok Sabha seats, and the state will once again be witnessing the same in 2024 General Elections.
The state of Goa, holds a total of two Lok Sabha seats, i.e., North Goa and South Goa. The national parties like BJP and INC have witnessed a constant tussle of power in the state as in 2014 Lok Sabha Elections, BJP walked away with both the Lok Sabha seats, while in 2019, they have to share one with INC.
