HYDERABAD: Thousands of people living in low-lying areas of four coastal Andhra districts have been evacuated to relief camps as severe cyclone Jal,packing 120 km per hour winds,is expected to slam into the coast late Sunday night. The state government on Saturday directed district collectors of Nellore,Prakasam,Guntur and Krishna district to evacuate people on the coast to safety. The cyclone which lay about 550 km east-southeast of Chennai and 700 km southeast of Nellore would intensify further,and make landfall between Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh coasts,according to the Met Department. A storm surge of about 1-2 metres above the average tide levels would inundate low-lying areas of Nellore and Prakasam districts of Andhra pradesh and Tiruvallur,Chennai and Kanchipuram districts at the time of landfall.

Accused in Kerala lecturer assault case gets bail

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A sessions court in Ernakulam on Saturday granted bail to N A Anas,an accused in the case of the attack on college lecturer T J Joseph. A local leader of the Popular Front of India PFI,Anas had been elected as the member of a block panchayat in Ernakulam district in the recently concluded elections to the local bodies. Anas,an electronics teacher with a Muslim-run private college,had contested as the candidate of Social Democratic Party of India,the political arm of radical organisation PFI. Under judicial custody for more than two months,he had filed the nomination from jail and never appeared in public for the campaign. Earlier,the court had granted bail to a dental doctor Raneef,who had been arrested on charges of giving first aid for the assailants who had chopped off the lecturers right palm.

Pakistan gives 13th dossier on 26/11 to India

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has handed over to India the 13th dossier on the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks and a formal request regarding its proposal to send a commission to interview key witnesses in India in connection with the trial of seven Pakistani suspects linked to the incident. The GoI was requested to facilitate the visit of the proposed Commission, said a statement issued by the Foreign Office on Saturday.
