David and I are like best friends,who are always fighting and making up. Nevertheless,we are there for each other. Aaj kal husband aur wife bhi itna saath nahin nibhaate jitne hum log saath rahen hain. Davids sincerity towards his work is incomparable. Of all my films with him,Swarg is my favourite. I think it was Davids most sincere work till date. But I feel iss ke baad David sincerity se darr gaya and chased success. But I must also say that he was not wrong. Swarg did not take off well initially but later,it went on to become a hit. Haseena Maan Jaayegi with Sanjay is also one of my other favourites. Its quite interesting how all of us became a part of this project. One day,Sanjay came to me and said,Arey yaar,ek Punjabi aadmi hain usski picture kar le. I am sending him to you. It was David. Similarly one day David came to me saying,Sanju ke saath film karni hain,tu ussme comedy kar rahaa hain,hero woh hain. That was how Haseena . was born. I did this film only for David. In fact,I never bothered about the story as far as his films were concerned,as I knew that he would make a good movie. Similarly,all I remember about Deewana Mastana is that director Ketan Desai came to me and said,Shah Rukh Khan ne film chhod di hai. We dont have a hero and we want you to help us. I decided to take up the offer. However,while shooting for the film mid-way,I realised that the story was going haywire. David came to me and suggested that we should change it. All of us sat together in my office and worked on the subject before leaving for Hyderabad to shoot. Anil Kapoor was very naaraaz. He said,I went abroad for work and look what did you do to the film. All said and done,he is a gem of a person. I never had any issue working with him and I also realised that had I been in his shoes,I too would have been annoyed. Jodi No 1 is the only film of mine with David which ussne kab aur kaise banaa di mujhe pataa hi nahin chala. In those days I was doing several movies at a time. We went on a 28-day schedule to Goa and I must have worked for about 18 -20 days. And the whole film was shot during that span. When I watched Jodi No 1,I asked the director,David,toone yeh kya kiya,yaar? Strangely after Do Knot Disturb,David and I did not work together. I did not feel the need to stress him out to make films with me because I think he has every right to look after his career. But even today when we meet,we have a great time.
