Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje on Monday accused the central government of targeting Gujarat CM Narendra Modi through the Sohrabuddin fake encounter investigation. She also stated that the central government was protecting terrorists like Sohrabuddin, adding that the CBI was making a hero out of him.

Raje, who is currently touring parts of Rajasthan where local body elections are to be held on August 18,was in Sikar on Monday to inaugurate a private school. The CBI is conducting the investigation of the Sohrabuddin case as if it were part of the Congress party. And now there are reports that Gujarat CM Narendra Modi is being targeted, Raje said. She added that Modi, who is only trying to govern his state in peace, was not guilty of anything but actually a victim of the UPA governments malice.

She also slammed the Congress for going soft on terrorism, claiming that the CBI has made Sohrabuddin some sort of hero, while he was actually a terrorist. This will send a very poor message across the country in curbing not only terrorism but crime in general. The CBI should not portray anyone as a hero, she said.

Though Raje and Modi as high-profile neighbouring CMs for four years have maintained cordial ties at best,BJP leaders stated that this is probably the first time Raje has openly come out in Modis support.

Though Raje defended Modi on Monday, her former colleagues Gulab Chand Kataria and Om Mathur found no mention in her speech despite reports that the CBI might question them both in the case. While Kataria was home minister in Rajes government,Mathur was state president and in-charge of elections in Gujarat.
