Army rotates commanders

The officer will take over as the Central Army Commander from July.

With several top slots getting vacant due to the retirement of officers,the Army has rotated its commanders in the operationally sensitive Western and Northern Commands,even as two officers have been elevated to the rank of commander-in-chief.

Western Army Commander Sanjiv Chachra,who has spent just over a year at Chandimandir,has been appointed the new Northern Army Commander and will take over in July on the retirement of Lt Gen KT Parnaik.

In place of Chachra,the Western Command will be headed by Lt Gen Philip Campose who has been approved for a commander-in-chief rank.

Campose is currently heading the Perspective Planning Directorate at Army HQ.

Another officer who has picked up the rank of a C-in-C is Lt Gen Rajan Bakshi who is currently heading the Leh based 14 Corps.

The officer will take over as the Central Army Commander from July.

The current Central Army Commander,Lt Gen A C Chait has been approved for a posting in New Delhi as the next Chief of Integrated Defence Staff,a position he will take over after the retirement of Lt Gen N C Marwah.

The first new posting of an Army Commander level officer in the current round will take place next month with Lt Gen Sanjeev Madhok,who is currently DG Information Technology,taking over the Shimla based Army Training Commanding on June 1.
