Apparently succumbing to pressure from the trade and industry sector, the Gujarat Electricity Board has indefinitely deferred the inclusion of industries drawing 75 HP electricity or more in the High Tension category of consumers. The Board had also taken the recession factor into consideration, GEB chairman Nalin Bhatt told Express Newsline.

11 die on Holi
Eight people drowned in various waterbodies of the Vadodara city, Vadodara rural, Bharuch and Dahod districts, and three were murdered on Holi on Tuesday.

VMC warning
The Vadodara Municipal Corporation has threatened to auction moveable and immovable property of persons who have not paid property tax and water charges. A public notice issued by the VMC states that the date for paying the property tax and water charges in all the administrative wards of the city was over.

Bereaved
Halimabai, mother of Independent municipal councillor Gulam Chasmawala, died. A meeting to pay homage will be held at 9 am on Thursday at the Kuwat-e-Islam Masjid in Ladwada.

Felicitated
Writer and researcher Kantilal Tripathi was felicitated for his contribution to literature at a recent programme in Pandoli, Kheda district. He was given a shawl and Rs 10,000 in cash by Rajnibhai P Patel and Kantibhai P Patel of Zambia.

Music recitals
The VMC recently organised a two-day musical programme in memory of classical vocalist Ustad Faiyaz Khan at the Music College. It had recitals by Neha Majmundar, Pandit Arun Kushalkar, Asha Khadilkar, Ghulam Hussain Khan and Pt Hariyaran Varma.
