S.A.S. NAGAR, Sept 25: PUNCOM overcame minor hiccups to defeat Godrej Club by four wickets and enter semifinal of the sixth J P Atray Memorial cricket tournament here at the PCA Stadium today.

Set a target of 150, PUNCOM very nearly made a hash of it before allrounder Ubaid Kamal steered them home with ten balls to spare. PUNCOM will now sqaure up with Bishnoi Club in the semifinal on September 27.

The Godrej left-arm spin trio of Madan Lal, Girish Bhanot and Amit Kakria kept pegging on even as the medium pacers had failed to make a mark early on. After the PUNCOM openers Bhupinder Singh Sr and Sukhwinder Tinkoo had given their side a good start, it appeared as if Godrej Club had lost the battle. But, a spate of wickets in the middle overs rocked their boat somewhat before Ubaid blasted three sixes and a four in his whirlwind knock.

Earlier, the Godrej top-order batted as if they were aliens in this form of the game. Take Rahul Panta8217;s 27 runs out and it was a total disaster. Towards the end Amit Kakria and Girish Bhanot batted sensibly to lend some respectability to their total.

The PUNCOM spinners, Bharti Vij and Kailash Sanwal bowled an immaculate line and picked up three wickets each.

Indian Airlines take on PCA Colts XI in the first semifinal tomorrow.
