Two held for snatching chains, bags

DCP Makarand Ranade Zone 11 said, 8220;For the past 2-3 months, we have been noticing an increase in incidents of bag and chain snatching in our zone, especially in the area between Evershine Nagar and Bhagat Singh Nagar. To nab the accused, a special team was formed which patrolled the area and gathered information in plain clothes so as to avoid any suspicion.8221;

After conducting enquiries, the police team learnt that a youth identified as Ayaz Merchant 22 and his accomplice were responsible for most of the incidents of chain and bag snatching in the area.

8220;Based on the information, early on November 6, our team nabbed Merchant from the Link Road while he was targeting joggers in the area,8221; said Ranade.

During interrogation, Merchant revealed the details of his accomplice, identified as Zahid Ahmed Khan 19, who was then arrested.

The police recovered chains, mobile phones and cash to the tune of Rs 2, 78,500 from the duo. 8220;The two are in police custody till November 15,8221; added Ranade.
