Industrial estate fire in Ghatkopar injures three; blaze doused after nearly three hours

Three people were injured after a level-one fire broke out and spread at an industrial estate in Ghatkopar on Tuesday morning. Firefighters battled the blaze for nearly three hours before it was brought under control in the afternoon.

The incident was reported at 10.22 am at Narayan Nagar, opposite Mahendra Hospital in Ghatkopar West. According to preliminary information, the fire originated on the second floor of a two-storey industrial estate and was declared a level-one blaze at 10.42 am.

Officials said the flames remained confined to electric installations and items including wiring, fans, irons, steamers, furniture, sewing machines, garments, steel racks and office files stored in shop number 209, spread across an area of around 1,000 square feet.

Three persons sustained burn injuries and were rushed to the civic-run Rajawadi Hospital. The injured were identified as Riyazuddin (30), Valayat Ali (50) and Haddis Ali (51). Riyazuddin suffered critical injuries with 60 per cent burns, while Valayat and Haddis sustained 3 per cent and 30 per cent burn injuries, respectively. According to medical officers, all three sought discharge against medical advice (DAMA) from the hospital by afternoon.

Fire officials said the blaze was fully extinguished by 1.05 pm. The firefighting operation involved personnel from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, with support from Mumbai Police, the local civic ward office and the electricity distribution company.
