
CHANDIGARH, Aug 27: The university and college teachers today organised a rally and marched from Gandhi Bhawan to the office of the Vice-Chancellor to protest the non-acceptance of their demand of implementation of the recommendations of the UGC pay scales.
The decision of the Haryana government to follow the principle of quot;no pay no workquot; came under criticism from the rallyists. They stated that a prior notice had been given to the government about the strike. Others who addressed the rally include P.P. Arya, the former president of the Punjab University Teachers Association PUTA, Charanjit Chawla, the former general secretary of the Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers Union and Satya.
