PUNE, March 22: To ensure compliance with the provisions of Income Tax law relating to deduction of tax at source, the Department of Income Tax is planning to intensity the TDS survey operations and other survey operations under section 133A so that the defaulters can be brought to justice in accordance with law.
The object of the survey operations is to ensure voluntary compliance with tax laws, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax J M Mehra stated in a press statement issued here.
Under the provisions of Income Tax Act, certain authorised persons are required to deduct income tax at source at the time of payment of salaries, interest, rent, fees for professional services. The Income Tax Department, Pune Region, has, however, noticed that some of the persons are not deducting tax at source from various payment.
