Barring essential services provided by departments like water supply, hospitals and fire brigade, nearly 15,000 employees affiliated to the Pune Municipal Corporation Union will join their counterparts at 15 municipal corporations and 262 councils for an en masse casual leave on Tuesday.
The functioning of the PMC8217;s various departments will be paralysed as the employees will press for their major demand of the implementation of the fifth pay commission8217;s recommendations. Among their demands include equal opportunities for daily wage labourers, making the temporary employees permanent and filling of vacant posts, a statement issued here stated. They have also demanded lifting of the restrictions on the bonus and ex-gratia payment apart from insisting that the octroi tax should not be abolished.
However while all 38 octroi check posts will be working, 70-80 clerical staff at the Nava Pul Head office may participate in the casual leave, Additional Municipal Commissioner Deepak Kapoor said.
However, the PCMC staff will not go on strike.
Water closure
Water supply to the eastern parts of the city will remain close on Thursday between 11 am and 8 pm for urgent maintenance at Cantonment Water Works.
The areas to be affected include Yerwada, Kalyaninagar, Wadgaonsheri, Chandannagar, Housing board colony, Tingrenagar, Vishrantwadi, Alandi Road, Dhole-Patil Road, Pune station area, Bund Garden, Koregaon Park, Cantonment area, Race Course, Wanowrie, Solapur Road, Ghorpadi, Mundhwa, Kawade Road, Hadapsar and Mahadeonagar.The supply will resume late and will be at low pressure on Friday evening.
Mishap claims one
Sixtyone-year-old Dinkar Ramchandra Patole, a retired teacher of the Nav Maharashtra School, was killed in a road mishap on the Pune-Nashik highway on Sunday evening. Patole who was riding a moped was hit by an unidentified vephicle at around 7 p.m. The Bhosari police are investigating.
