SAS NAGAR, Oct 16: The proposed move of the Punjab Planning and Urban Development Authority PUDA to construct an approach road to the Industrial Training Institute here, has evoked criticism of residents of Phase V of the township.
In a communique to Chief Minister P.S. Badal, the residents have said the approach was being planned and designed at the cost of the green belt running through the area. They also informed Badal that PUDA was violating the state government directives dated February 2, 1995, outlawing the damage of green belts.
The residents also met PUDA Additional Chief Administrator Seema Jain and Superintending Engineer, Civil Works, and requested them to give approach road to ITI from the market side through the vacant land of the abandoned water works by providing a dual carriage way.
They also urged the PUDA officials that the permission of change of land use not be accorded without consent of the Phase-V residents. General secretary of the SAS House Welfare Owners Society, Albel Singh Shyan told CN that there was no park for the residents except these green belts. They also warned the government that they would launch an agitation if the change of land use was sanctioned by the PUDA.
