
A milestone in the country8217;s air defence system was achieved on Monday with the successful interception of a simulated missile that was launched from the Interim Test Range at Balasore.
A modified version of Prithvi was simulated as an adversary missile and it8217;s trajectory continuously tracked and the information compiled at the Mission Control Centre which was later transmitted to the Launch Control Centre for launching of the missile.
The target missile was successfully intercepted which proves that technologies earlier developed in the country for such purposes has been validated through the exercise. The interceptor missile deployed on Monday was equipped with Inertial Guidance in Mid Course and Active Seeker Guidance in the terminal phase.
8220;We have successfully validated many technologies relevant to an interceptor missile,8221; a top DRDO official said on Monday.
