SURAT, Oct 21: Irked over the 8220;meagre8221; allowance of Rs 125 for supervising higher-secondary schools, principals of all non-government aided secondary schools have decided to boycott the allowance as well as the additional responsibility from Thursday.
The decision is likely to paralyse education and supervision of classes XI and XII of all such schools in the State. There are about 70 such schools in South Gujarat and about 55 in Surat.
The Surat Zilla Acharya Sangh SZAS, an union of principals in Surat district owning allegiance to the Gujarat Rajya Acharya Sangh, claimed that no principals had been appointed to about 1,800 higher secondary schools in the State since the first one was established in 1976.
Though the secondary section principals had been in charge of the additional responsibility since then, none of their demands had been considered, alleged SZAS president Gulab N Patel, adding that matters actually worsened when the recommendations of the Fifth Pay Commission were implemented.
Considering the extra work, though the government increased the allowance of supervisors those who assisted the principals in the higher secondary section by Rs 300 to 350 and of teachers of the higher secondary schools by about Rs 350, the allowance of the principals was increased by Rs 100 to Rs 125 only, he claimed. 8220;This is a crude joke. And so we have decided not to accept the allowance or the responsibility,8221; Patel added.
The allowance for principals of single-stream schools was increased by Rs 100, while the allowance was increased by Rs 125 for principals of those schools where there are two streams.
