England mid-fielder Danny Murphy was ruled out of the World Cup on Friday after a scan revealed a broken foot and Trevor Sinclair has been recalled to take his place, coach Sven-Goran Eriksson said on Friday. FA spokesman Paul Newman had earlier told Reuters: 8220;He Murphy is out of the World Cup. The scan showed that he has fractured his left foot, the second metatarsal 8212; the same as David Beckham.8221; Murphy, the fifth England mid-fielder to get injured in the last six weeks, picked up the injury in an awkward fall towards the end of an England training session on Wednesday. Eriksson has recalled West Ham8217;s Sinclair to take his place just three days after he returned home thinking his World Cup was over. Sinclair had been drafted to cover another mid-fielder Kieron Dyer but the Newcastle man made a swifter recovery than anticipated from a knee injury and is expected by England officials to be fit for the finals.
US team arrive amid tight security
Inchon South Korea: The US team arrived for the World Cup here on Friday amid tight security and hopes of improving on their showing in France in 1998 where they failed to win a match. Coach Bruce Arena8217;s squad pose a key hurdle for South Korea in Group D as the co-hosts aim to beat Poland and the United States for a place in the final round of 16. Portugal are clear group favourites. Some 500 riot police escorted the team through Inchon International Airport in a show of security that Arena said was a little surprising. 8220;We8217;ve been here and we anticipated great security but perhaps not to this degree,8221; Arena told reporters. 8220;But we are not complaining. The Koreans are doing a great job with regard to this security for the US team.8221;
