Gundewar summons journalist

February 5: Sujata Anandan, principal corespondent for The Indian Express, Mumbai, was on Thursday summoned by the Gundewar Commission. She was the first journalist to be summoned by the commission, which is probing the police firing incident at Ramabai Nagar on July 11, 1997.

Dance recital at Pt Durgalal fete

Samved has organised a `trio dance item’ on February 13 as part of the Pandit Durgalal Festival. The recital, to be held at 6.30 pm at the Nehru Centre, will bring together three senior accomplished dancers – Uma Dogra (Kathak), Sucheta Chapekar (Bharata-Natyam) and Daksha Mashruwala (Odissi).

Jr athlete meet for the deaf

The Maharashtra Deaf Pride has organised its first inaugural open junior athlete meet for the deaf on February 21 at the University Sports Pavilion Ground, Marine Lines.

Best tourism institute award

The Institute of Hotel Management, Catering Technology and Applied Nutrition, Mumbai, has been adjudged the bestTourism Educational Institute in the country. The award was presented by vice-president Krishna Kant to the principal of the institute S L Dhalgarkar.

Unauthorised ticket sellers held

The vigilance branch of the Central Railway has arrested two persons for selling tickets without authority at Thane. They have been prosecuted under the provisions of the Indian Railways Act. The branch also conducted a raid at the premises of an unauthorised travel agent called Prakalp Travels and Tours Pvt Ltd. Eighteen reservation tickets worth Rs 36,000, cash, reservation forms and other documents were seized from the premises.

Course in germinology

The Bombay Adult Education Association will start a course in germinology which will be conducted by Ravi Chadha every Saturday from February 7. For application forms and details contact the association’s office at Fort or call at 2821047.

New reservation service by KLM

Loading capacity record set by WR

The Western Railway (WR) has achieved a new record of loading approximately 24.64 metric tons (MT) upto January 1998 in the current financial year, as against the 23.42 MT during the corresponding period last year.
